The Heart of Exceptional Care

Expertise, innovation, and compassion in cardiovascular medicine.

Our Story

Amavita Heart and Vascular Health began in 2017 when Dr. Pedro Martinez-Clark set out to change how cardiovascular care could help people in South Florida. The name "Amavita" means "love life" in Latin – perfectly capturing our belief that heart care should help you live better, not just longer.

Today, we're known for our advanced outpatient procedures that let patients go home the same day. While we work with Jackson Memorial and Mercy Hospitals, we remain independent so we can always put our patients first.

Meet Dr. Pedro Martinez-Clark

His Journey

Dr. Martinez-Clark began his medical career in Colombia before moving to the United States to pursue advanced training. After completing research at Harvard and his medical residency at Case Western Reserve University, he returned to Harvard for specialized training in cardiovascular and interventional cardiology.

His connection to his Latin roots eventually brought him to Miami, where he joined the University of Miami as a professor and physician. Working alongside renowned cardiologist Dr. William O'Neill helped shape his approach to complex heart cases.

With 15 years of experience and recognition as a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), Dr. Martinez-Clark and his team bring world-class expertise to every patient he treats.

His Approach to Care

"I discovered my passion for heart medicine during my research years," Dr. Martinez-Clark explains. "What began as scientific interest became a lifelong commitment to helping people with cardiovascular problems."

Dr. Martinez-Clark believes in building genuine connections with his patients. He's known for being honest about medical conditions while offering hope and compassion.

"I always tell patients the truth about their condition," he says, "but how you deliver that information matters just as much. Sometimes that means offering reassurance, holding a hand, and yes – sometimes even sharing a laugh to lighten the mood."

Research & Innovation

Dr. Martinez-Clark has led more than 25 clinical research trials throughout his career, working on everything from heart failure treatments to new valve technologies.

He takes special pride in helping develop the Trans-Caval approach – an innovative technique that helps patients who can't be treated with standard methods.

This commitment to advancing heart care means Amavita patients benefit from the latest treatments, often before they're widely available elsewhere.

The Amavita Approach

Outpatient Excellence

We believe cardiovascular care doesn't always need a hospital stay. Our modern outpatient facilities let patients receive advanced heart and vascular procedures and return home the same day.

"For years, other specialists have performed complex surgeries in outpatient centers with excellent results," explains Dr. Martinez-Clark. "Cardiologists are now bringing this same convenience and personalized attention to heart care."

The benefits go beyond just going home sooner. In our centers, each patient receives our medical team's complete focus during their procedure. This creates a more relaxed experience and often leads to better outcomes.

All our facilities maintain the same strict quality standards as hospitals, regulated by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).

Cultural Sensitivity

Miami's diverse community deserves care that respects cultural differences. Our team provides services in English, Spanish, and Creole, ensuring every patient fully understands their condition and treatment options.

We recognize that Hispanic and African-American communities face higher risks of heart disease and unique barriers to care. That's why we offer free transportation services and take extra time to explain medical information clearly.

Community Commitment

Miami Initiative to Stop Amputations (MISA)

Through the Amavita Foundation, we created MISA to address a serious problem: too many people in our community lose limbs due to vascular disease that could have been treated earlier.

The facts are troubling: 1 in 20 Americans over age 50 has peripheral artery disease (PAD), and nationwide about 400 amputations happen every day – with Black and Hispanic patients facing the highest risks.

Our mission: Reduce preventable amputations in Miami-Dade County by 20% over the next decade.

MISA works through:

  • Education – Teaching people about risk factors and warning signs

  • Screening – Finding vascular problems before they become serious

  • Advocacy – Improving access to early treatment for all communities

This initiative follows the American Heart Association's call to reduce amputations nationwide by 2030.

Affiliations & Recognition

  • Recognized by the American Heart Association

  • Recipient of the 2023 Apogee Award for Excellence in Healthcare from South Florida Business & Wealth

  • Member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC)
